Computex 2012 [Gigabyte] [4/6/2012]

Gigabyte today showcased a few Z77 motherboards and their Ultra Durable 5 technology which is similar to MSI's Military Class III which is basically more better components, you can check out about ultra durable 5 technology below. The first two motherboards the showcased are thunderbolt ready motherboards paired up with their Ultra Durable 5 concept. The Z77X-UP4 TH and the Z77X-UP5 TH are a bit more powerful Z77X-UD3H and Z77X-UD5H respectively. The only different is that one is using Ultra Durable 5 and the other is using Ultra Durable 4 You can know if the motherboard is using ultra durable 4 or 5 by seeing the letters 'D' and' P', so if you have a D it is Ultra Durable 4 if it has a P it is a Ultra Durable 5 motherboard. Both of these boards have 2 thunderbolt ports. These two thunderbolt ports are also connected to the Intel Flexible Display Interface, which acts a mini display port video out and can be daisy chained between 6 devices provided it is a thunderbolt cable. The two also feature high-grade CPU VRM, which utilize new high-current chokes and PowIRstage IR3550 driver-MOSFETs, and a VRD12-compliant VRM controller, also made by IR.
The Next motherboard which Gigabyte showcased is the Z77X-UP7. This motherboard is the first to feature the Ultra Durable 5 Technology. This motherboard has the intel Z77 chipset and supports all sandy bridge and ivy bridge processors on the LGA 1155 package as well as dual channel DDR 3 memory. This board supports up to 4 way SLI or Crossfire X with PCI-E 3.0 which is powered by a PLX PEX8747 PCI-Express 3.0 bridge chip, which is wired to the PCI-Express 3.0 x16 link of the processor on one end, and gives out two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 links, which are distributed among six PCI-Express x16 slots using an array of lane switches. The board features DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, and D-Sub video out. That is not only all this board features a 32 phase CPU VRM which is really overkill and might be a selling point for some people. There are six SATA 6G ports, four SATA 3G ports, and one mSATA 6 Gb/s. The board also features dual gigabit Ethernet which one them are Intel's and the other is a Qualcomm-Atheros PHY, as well as 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 8+2 channel HD audio (Realtek ALC898, 110 dBA SNR), and 10 USB 3.0 ports (six on the rear panel, four via headers). This board will launch later in the year.
PRESS RELEASE
GIGABYTE TECHNOLGY Co. Ltd., a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, today introduced their latest Ultra Durable 5 technology, featuring a range of high current capable components including the industry’s highest rated 60A IR3550 PowIRstage ICs that provide the best quality power delivery to the CPU for record-breaking performance, cool and efficient operation and extended motherboard lifespan.

GIGABYTE is yet again raising the bar of motherboard quality and durability with their Ultra Durable 5 technology, which includes high current capable components for the CPU power zone including the highest rated and awarded IR3550 PowIRstage ICs from International Rectifier, 2X Copper PCB and high current Ferrite Core Chokes rated up to 60A which together are able to deliver up to 60°C* cooler temperatures than traditional motherboards. Featured on a range of new motherboards based the Intel X79 and Z77 Express Chipsets, GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 5 technology is the next evolution in quality motherboard design.
“As the exclusive motherboard manufacturer to utilize the amazingly efficient IR3550 PowIRstage ICs from International Rectifier, GIGABYTE has spent a considerable amount of engineering resources to ensure our Ultra Durable 5 motherboards are our best Ultra Durable motherboards yet,” commented Henry Kao, Vice President of GIGABYTE Motherboard Business Unit. “GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 5 motherboards are especially optimized for water cooled systems and overclocked Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge “K” SKU CPUs due to their exceptionally low operating temperatures, and make the perfect match for anyone looking to push their system to limits.”

“We are delighted that IR’s award-winning IR3550 PowIRstage provides the high current, thermal capability and outstanding performance to power GIGABYTE’s new Ultra Durable 5 motherboard series,” said Deepak Savadatti, Vice President and General Manager, IR’s Enterprise Power Business Unit.

About IR3550 PowIRstage ICs
The award winning IR3550 PowIRstage ICs feature greater power e¬fficiency and are the highest rated Power Stage in the industry, able to provide up to 60A of power. This ensures the best power delivery to the CPU, for more stable operation and better overclocking performance. GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 5 motherboards also use both IR digital PWM controllers and IR PowIRstage ICs, for a uniquely seamless power delivery system.

IR has leveraged its world class packaging technology developed for the DirectFET, improving the thermal capability and layout of the PowIRstage significantly over that of other MCM packages.
