Reporter Goes Undercover At A Foxconn Plant To Find Out The Working Conditions There

A few months back Tim Cook visited one of the foxconn plants which manufactures the iPhone and the working conditions at that time were pretty adequate. Recently a reporter from Shanghai Evening Post reported that he went undercover as a worker at a foxconn plant to find out the working conditions there. Hew worked at the plant for 10 days and he spent 7 of the days there in orientation. He commented that the sleeping conditions there was a nightmare. When entering the factory floor there is a metal detector so whoever tries to sneak something out is immediately fired. The reporter's job on the assembly line is to marking areas of the iPhone's back cover before it is painted.
"By my own calculations, I have to mark five iPhone plates every minute, at least. For every 10 hours, I have to accomplish 3,000 iPhone 5 back plates. There are total 4 production lines in charge of this process, 12 workers in every line. Each line can produce 36,000 iPhone 5 back plates in half a day, this is scary … I finally stopped working at 7 a.m. We were asked to gather again after work. The supervisor shout out loud in front of us: “Who wants to rest early at 5 a.m !? We are all here to earn money ! Let’s work harder !” I was thinking who on earth wants to work two extra hours overtime for only mere 27 yuan (USD$4) !?"-Reporter undercover in Foxconn factory

Production of Next Gen iPhone About To Start, Thousands Line Up For A Job At Foxconn

Apple's iPhone is reportedly now in test production, and if the test production is successful main production will begin. It seems that Foxconn is ready to produce the next gen iPhon as thousands of Chinese lined up outside the Foxconn plant in Chengdu in hopes of landing one of the assembly jobs related to the production of the 6th generation Apple iPhone and rumored iPad Mini which is slated for a fall release. Chinese electronics site M.I.C. Gadget said that the job has only one strict requirement which is that the applicant must have good eyesight. Before applying for these seasonal jobs, applicants must pay a registration fee of 150 Chinese Yuan (approximately $24).  According to those close to the hiring plans, there are still some openings left but these openings are being filled fast. Meanwhile in the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou test production is said to have started. According to one report, over 100 workers during a recent night shift managed to produce all of 5 Apple iPhones during the entire shift. The insider shrugged it off saying the phone is in the trial production stage.
