The iPhone effect, when two is better than one

When bigger ain't better

Choosing the perfect smartphone is a tough decision, while there will always be that ongoing debate about which operating system should you be using whether it be an Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Tizen, Firefox…the list goes on and on. The software is one part of the equation and the hardware will also play a key role in your choice. Over the years smartphones have evolved into a different kind of device, from the initial thought of combining multiple functions into a communication device into an all-in-one device that fits in our pocket. We are living in the golden age of smartphones with manufacturers constantly pumping out new devices and integrating new features into smartphones to make them…well smarter.

Beyond that, smartphones have also constantly jumped up in size, the perfect example of that is with 8 generations of iPhones which gradually became bigger and bigger over the years. The once humble 3.5-inches I now just a relic of the past and the future is with big screened devices.
Phablet - a mobile device that combines the features of a smartphone and a tablet computer and is larger than a typical smartphone but not as large as a typical small tablet.

Low End Nexus 7 Spotted On GLBenchmark, Most Probably The $99 Nexus 7

The Nexus 7 is one of the most successful Nexus branded devices out there and it is also the one with the lowest price tag. Coming in at only $199 for the 16GB model it is good enough to compete with the Kindle Fire HD, iPad mini and the Nook HD. The Nexus 7 not only combines the vanilla up to date android updates but also packs a quad core processor. In the past few months there has been rumors that Google and Asus are planning to bring a $99 Nexus 7 which will most probably be introduced early next year alongside Android 5.0 Jellybean. GLBenchmark also proves the existence of an undentified tablet with a product code of ME172V. The specs include a 7" 1024 X 600 resolution screen a 1GHz processor, 1GB of storage which is expandable via the microSD card, and a 4270mAh battery. In the benchmark the device is seen running Android 4.1.1 which means that Google is still testing the hardware.

Android 4.2 is the latest version of Android by Google and it brings in a bevy of new features to the phones and tablets. But beneath the OS there is a bug which is causing December to be missing from the calendar. Now it seems Google has patched the bug and is releasing the 4.2.1 update which not only fixes the calendar bug but also fixing some bluetooth issues. The update is being pushed out to the trio of Nexus devices and is a mere 1.1MB big.

Sony Xperia S First Ever Non Nexus Device To Get The Stock Android Experience And Will Get Updates As Fast As Nexus Devices

Last week at IFA 2012 sony unveiled the Xperia T/TX which is replacing the Xperia S by being the flagship device. Although the Xperia S is now replaced but the device is still the first Xperia device by Sony and now it is going to be the first non Nexus device to receive a pure version of android and will receive the latest versions of android the same time other Nexus devices receive it. This is part of a google experiment which they launched 2 weeks back. According to Google's technical lead of AOSP (Android Open Source Project), "the Xperia S is a very powerful GSM device which has an unlockable bootloader and is from a manufacturer which has always bee friendly to AOSP". Today Sony gave the last piece of info needed to by Google's AOSP which are all the drivers needed to run the hardware of the Xperia S. Now the AOSP team can start working on the pure android ROM for the Xperia S. So now each time a new android is launched the Xperia S can get the update the same time as the nexus devices. The first vanilla update for the Xperia S will be Android 4.1 codenamed Jellybean. Personally i think some customers who bought the Xperia S might not be happy because some of them are pretty attached to the Timscape UI and a change to the stock android might be a shock for some users. After the Jellybean update, the next update which the Xperia S will get is Keylime Pie which is expected to be announced by Google in Q1 2013.
