Nvidia's Geforce GTX 780, Underpowered GTX Titan ?

Well, today is the launch date of the GTX 780 and the card will be available for purchase starting today with a base price of $649. This card will replace the previous gen GTX 680 and will be Nvidia's flagship card for this year and is also the first 700 series card to be announced. The GTX 780 still utilises the kepler architecture and has the GK 110 core; similar to the GTX Titan and the Nvidia Tesla. Moving on, the specs of the GTX 780 include the GK104 core with 2304 cuda cores, 3GB of GDDR5 memory, 48 ROP units, 7100 million transistors, a 384bit wide bus, and the core is clocked in at 863MHz at stock. After reading some of the reviews and watching a couple of videos showcasing the cards, my impressions are that Nvidia may not have created a new card but what they are trying to do is to bring better performance to a more affordable price. This fact is true because not everybody has the money to spend a hefty $999 to buy a Titan. With the GTX 780 Nvidia's bringing 60% the performance of the Titan and bringing it at a price point which is affordable to people. In the SLI reviews, i've seen the GTX 780 is similar to other cards ever made as the price to performance ratio is similar as 2 cards does not mean double the performance. In the design of the card, Nvidia did a great job by bringing the awesome design introduced on the GTX 690 down to the GTX 780 which includes an aluminum frame and a plexi-glass window as well as a blower style fan. On to the temperatures and i averaged out a few of the reviews i managed to go through and 35-37 degrees seem to be the idle and under full load the temps are at about 80 degrees. Overall Nvidia has provided users with an upgraded version of the GTX 680. Other than new hardware, Nvidia alongside the GTX 780 has announced shadowplay which will record you gameplay and will give you sort of a gameplay video of about 20 mins for your complexity to show people.

GTX 660 Ti

The GTX 660 Ti according to rumors will be the card which has very good performance and also a good price, this is because it is using the GK 104 chip. It is rumored to be launching on August 16 with some sources confirming the date. There are some leaked images of the GTX 660 Ti manufactured by EVGA, These images looks like the real deal. From the image we can clearly see that the PCB of it is shorter than the shroud covering it which is similar to the GTX 670. From the image we also can interpret that the GTX 660 Ti is powered through a single 6-pin power connector. The rear I/O include 2 DVI ports (1 X Single Link and 1 X Dual Link), one HDMI port, and 1 Display port, there are also two SLI fingers present in this card. This card uses a blower type fan which cools an aluminum heatsink fin array with a copper base which is pretty similar to the cooling system on stock coolers. More specs on this card was acquired from chinese forum RedQuaser. They revealed that this card has two different models. They suggested that the non-reference 660 Ti will have a 256-bit memory bus, 1152 CUDA cores, and dual 6-pin power connectors. Additionally they also mentioned that the 660 Ti's core speed is set at 980MHz and a boost clock of 1123MHz. Performance wise this card managed to score X2700 in 3D Mark11 extreme preset and the score achieved by the 660 Ti is similar to the one scored by the HD 7950. The second model will have 1344 CUDA cores with a 192-bit memory bus. Both of the models will come with 2GB GDDR5 memory.

Colorful Geforce GTX 670 Revealed

This card features the same GK104 chip which was used on the flagship GTX 680 except that one of its SMX unit is disabled which reduces the total number of cuda cores, also the card is so trimmed down that it has been equipped on a PCB which matches the length of the GTS 450 card.  MSI’s GTX 680 was previously leaked but it was only pictured from the top so we couldn’t exactly calculate the exact length of the PCB. The colorful 670 has been pictured from the back which shows that the PCB is extremely short compared to the 680 and the cooler shroud is extended to make it look like a bigger card. However the features are still intact, such as the 2 SLI Goldfingers, Reference Display Outputs (2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 Display Port) a 4+1 Phase VRM design and 2GB (256-bit wide) memory interface, One thing we spotted is that there are 4 Memory chips located at the back of the PCB while 4 are located at the front. This means that there’s room for additional 8 memory chips so we can see 4GB reference or custom models in the future or at launch by different vendors. The card still requires two 6 Pin connectors and has a TDP above 170W. The VRM assembly is located near the exhaust port. Launching on May 7th, The card would be priced at an MSRP of $399.

Geforce GTX 690

NVIDIA today announced their Dual GPU card the GTX 690, it is also the world’s fastest consumer graphics card with a bold industrial design to match. Powered by the dual Kepler™ architecture-based on GeForce GPUs, the GTX 690 is meticulously designed  inside and out  to deliver the most refined, elegant and smooth PC gaming experience possible. The surprise announcement was made by NVIDIA CEO and co-founder Jen-Hsun Huang during his keynote address at the NVIDIA Game Festival in Shanghai, which is being attended by more than 6,000 gamers from across China. This card was Engineered to reach a new threshold in gaming performance, the GTX 690 also looks the part. Its array of innovative technologies is complemented by sleek materials that contribute to the exotic design of the card, including:
  • An exterior frame made from trivalent chromium-plated aluminum, providing excellent strength and durability
  • A fan housing made from a thixomolded magnesium alloy, which offers excellent heat dissipation and vibration dampening
  • High-efficiency power delivery with less resistance, lower power and less heat generated using a 10-phase, heavy-duty power supply with a 10-layer, two-ounce copper printed circuit board
  • Efficient cooling using dual vapor chambers, a nickel-plated finstack and center-mounted axial fan with optimized fin pitch and air entry angles
  • Low-profile components and ducted baseplate channels for unobstructed airflow, minimizing turbulence and improving acoustic quality
The GTX 690 is powered by a total of 3,072 NVIDIA CUDA® cores, all working to deliver awesome gaming performance for ultimate gaming setups. Designed for the discriminating gamer and ultra-high-resolution, multimonitor NVIDIA Surround™ configurations, the GTX 690 delivers close to double the frame rates of the closest single GPU product, the GTX 680. Plus, it is more power efficient and quieter when compared to systems equipped with two GTX 680 cards running in NVIDIA SLI® configuration.“The GTX 690 is truly a work of art — gorgeous on the outside with amazing performance on the inside,” said Brian Kelleher, senior vice president of GPU engineering at NVIDIA. “Gamers will love playing on multiple screens at high resolutions with all the eye candy turned on. And they’ll relish showing their friends how beautiful the cards look inside their systems.” The GTX 690 graphics card is designed using GeForce GPUs based on NVIDIA’s 28-nm Kepler architecture. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 GPU will be available in limited quantities starting May 3, 2012, with wider availability by May 7, 2012 from NVIDIA’s add-in card partners, including ASUS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Inno3D, MSI, Palit and Zotac. This card is expected to retail at $999.

EVGA Dual Fan Signature 2 for GTX 680

EVGA started of with its GeForce GTX 680 lineup with a bang. On its launch, EVGA showed off its first "Signature" cooling solution. That particular cooler is similar in design to NVIDIA's cooling solution (lateral-flow through aluminum channels). We're getting to know of yet another of EVGA's non-reference cooler designs for the GeForce GTX 680, the dual-fan Signature 2 cooler. The cooler uses two 80 mm fans that guide air through a complex heatsink below. The fans will spin at lower speeds to achieve similar/higher air-flow than the lateral-blower featured on other designs, and hence could end up being quieter.
