What happened during CES 2016

Taking notice of product launches and trade shows is a big part of blogging about technology and the annual Consumer Electronics show is a dear part of me as I have been tuning in to all the announcements for a couple of years now and frankly speaking, everything feels a little boring now. As the years go by, I begin to look away from CES just because everything about has changed. Sure, the new products are exciting but all the major announcements or headlines are basically a little overkill. So, here I am writing about a recap of what I can remember most about CES 2016.

Not going to talk too much about the overkill stuff like the Samsung fridge with a gigantic tablet display. It is the future and all but at the moment it is impractical whatsoever due to it's relatively high price tag. But instead, I am going to focus on the mobile technology part of CES 2016. Maybe a little about the cars and home appliances but generally speaking, I am not an expert or advocate of either genres. So, it's just mostly about the new tablets, computers, laptops. Fitness trackers and mobile accessories.

Comparing The HTC One mini & The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini

Late last week HTC finally announced the HTC One mini after weeks of leaks. So today i'll be doing a short comparison between both of the device and comparing them feature by feature. But i have to say that the end decision is pretty compelling. First up i'll introduce these two devices, the HTC One mini like its bigger brother has an aluminum unibody exterior which makes it feel more premium and is nice to hold in the hand with the curved back. The S4 mini in the other hand is also very similar to its bigger brother in terms of looks that is. In the end the biggest decision you have to make is wheter you want plastic or aluminium. Of course there are pros and cons in each material.
"From a distance its hard to differentiate the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini"
Moving on to the heart and soul of every smartphone which is the hardware powering it. Well both of the device actually come with pretty similar hardware but there is no clear winner as both devices took some compromises. I'll start from the bottom, both handsets are powered by a dual core Snapdragon 400 CPU and the S4 mini has the edge by being clocked at a higher 1.7GHz compared to the mere 1.4GHz the One mini comes in. In terms of RAM the S4 mini once again takes the edge by having 1.5GB of RAM compared to the One mini which only boasts 1GB of RAM. In the storage sector the One mini packs 16GB of internal storage which is not expandable by any physical way, the S4 mini has 8GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card. In data connectivity the One mini has the slight edge because in the international model it has LTE whereas LTE on the S4 mini is not on the standard version. Moving on to the display, both devices have the same screen size which is 4.3" and the One mini has a major advantage because it has a 720P resolution which concludes a 342PPI whereas the S4 mini has a qHD resolution and that computes out a mere 256PPI only. In terms of extras the both devices have some hit and runs. The S4 mini has NFC but only for the LTE model, it also has an infrared port on the top; however nifty features like dual shot and airview found on the Galaxy S4 is not present here. On the One mini, HTC does not bundle in NFC nor an infrared port, but in the long run it does feature most of the main software benefits found on the HTC One mini like HTC Zoe and Blinkfeed. It is noted that at the time of writing both device are running android 4.2.2 with their respective manufacturers skin on top of it. Moving on to the camera which is always a debate on smartphones these days; I can't really justify things here because the camera on the One mini is using a different type of technology whereas Samsung is just merely slapping in a standard 8MP camera. The One mini has the same Ultrapixel camera found on the HTC One whereas on the S4 mini its simply just an 8MP camera.
"Both devices take a compromise hit"
Well as i said in the starting both devices have their own capabilities and it really up to you wheter you want plastic or metal because the hardware is seemingly identical across both devices. If i were to choose one of the device is would take the HTC One mini because of the better screen.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Vs HTC One, Which Will Come On Top ?

It is come to my attention that in the past few weeks or since i announced V2.0 of this blog i have been mainly writing about Samsung topics. So today i would like to adjourn this matter and in the coming weeks i will write about other topics so stay tuned. Also in the end of the month there are also some very interesting articles which are being planned for. Going up to the statement in hand today, i am here announcing that in the coming weeks i am going to release two in depth articles about both the HTC One and Galaxy S4. Actually at first this article was just a 1 part article but then i thought than between these two device i really can't crown a better device overall so i decided to break the article up and these articles will direct you to why one device is better than the other, so its a win win situation of the fans of both devices. Additionally, before i can write anything out i must have my hands on with the HTC One so it can be fair as i already had my hands on with the Galaxy S4. This will take some time as i will be busy the whole of next week so, i'll just have to sneak some time off to go to the HTC store and try out the HTC One.

Facebook Home & HTC First Announced, My Thoughts On It

Earlier today Facebook held an android related event in the HQ in California and at there they announced the Facebook home launcher and the HTC First. Yesterday i revealed my preliminary thoughts on the device and today, i'm going to give a follow up to the article on my thoughts after seeing it officially launched.
First things first, i have read quite a number of articles and seen quite some videos on the new Facebook Home launcher and i'm very impressed with what it can do. Also some big sites have put on some polls about the new launcher and they're asking if users want to use the new launcher as their home screen and the results are pretty consistently same in which users don't want to use it. When i first saw it this morning i was really intrigued with the lockscreen and i thought it was really nice with the minimalistic clock and being able to comment and like on the pictures which are the base for your lockscreen on the Facebook Home launcher.
Then i gave a thought on the pictures appearing on the lockscreen are all from your friends on facebook and what demoed on stage is the best case scenario and having the thought of low resolution and pixelated images being your homescreen is really terrifying. But that didn't stop my love for the notification system on the launcher which looks pretty functional but again it seems that its leaning towards facebook features. Jumping pass the lockscreen is the app drawer which is like android 2.2 with a touch of modern android themes. Again the background of the Facebook Home launcher is based on the photos randomly selected from your facebook friends and i'm still not sure if its possible to even put a custom one. On the same page jumping into the HTC First which should provide with the best Facebook Phone experience since it was built around it. The device looks pretty nicely designed and has that Facebook phone look and nicely suits with the interface being presented. Talking about devices, the new launcher by the social network giant will hit the Play Store next week on April 12 supporting 5 devices which are the HTC One, HTC One X/X+, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S III, and the Galaxy Note II. Facebook says that over the coming weeks they will roll it out to more devices and also in the coming months it will be available for Android tablets. Moving on to the somewhat key feature of the launcher which is the popup bubble which can appear on any app or situation, it serves as a chat box which can be even used while running apps. This is one features which i highly look up upon as is some basic multitasking. Again, the fact that it only supports Facebook Messenger is a downfall but maybe in the future messaging will be supported. Rethinking the whole launcher made me think of the core problems of android, Lag its a hit or miss kind of thing and looking at the demo videos the launcher doesn't seems to face signs of lag but i'll try it myself first hand next week when the launcher is on the Play Store. Overall as Mark Zuckerberg said the whole experience is around your friends and not around apps.

Facebook Phone, My Preliminary Thoughts On It

In a few hours time, Facebook is going to hold their event in which hinting with the tagline of 'come see our new home on android'. With that said, Facebook is highly expected to announced a facebook launcher for android called Facebook Home and alongside the new launcher they are also expected to show off a new device called the HTC First and will most probably be the Facebook Phone which has been long rumored. So here is some of my preliminary thoughts on the phone which will be pioneering the new launcher. First up is that i don't think that there is really a need to have a phone based on a social network at this moment. But if Facebook is smart enough they would bundle the device with some features which are making life easier for social butterflies then maybe they have hit the jackpot. Another things is that being a social network based phone then you must always be connected to the internet to get the fullest out of everything and when using either wifi or 3G/4G battery life is drastically being used in both the background and foreground. The only way that Facebook can pull this off is that they show something so amazing that people would want to have one. Examples are hard core integration of Facebook with every corner of the phone having a share or like button. Launching this phone, Facebook is proned to show some integration of Instagram or maybe shed some new features to the android app. This is all i can say for now but stay tuned tomorrow as i will write another follow up article to this regarding what was announced.

HTC Teaser Poster Quotes "Alive Soon !" With An Image of A Heart Soldered Onto A PCB

Well next week we are bound to see some more leaks of the HTC M7 as we near the announcement on February 19. Today HTC Germany has released a teaser poster which says Alive Soon and the image is a heart on a PCB. Make no mistake as HTC is most probably teasing the M7. Still i can't think of anything which can be related to this poster but it could mean that the M7 will work like a heart which is efficient.

HTC Send Invites For A February 19 Press Event, HTC M7 ?

Just when we thought MWC was getting interesting with a lot of leaked devices. Today, HTC halted that thought and they have went ahead and released invites for a press event happening in New York City on the 19th of February. The event is around 2 and a half hours so expect to see some big launch there. Our number 1 guess is the HTC M7 which has been leaked quite a lot this year.

HTC Reportedly Working On A 5" Flagship Phone

HTC is reportedly working on a flagship smartphone with a full HD resolution. This device is expected to be released in the September or October timeframe. This device will come with a 5" display, these info comes from DigiTimes, they reported that this phone will come with an unusual resolution of 1794 X 1080 which is still full HD. The reason why it has an unusual resolution is because the android buttons would take up 126 rows. Personally i think this is quite true because Samsung and LG are making flagship smartphones with 5"+. The phablet market now is dominated by Samsung with their Galaxy Note.
