Zotac Geforce GTX 670 Extreme Edition Exposed

Latest info about ZOTAC’s GTX 670 Extreme Edition graphics card have been exposed which suggest that the card is based on a totally non reference design and a very beastly PCB design. It also features some of the most high class components ever used on a GTX 670. For example, the GK 104 along with its 2GB Hynix GDDR5 memory chips are powered by an 8+3Phase VRM equipped with the bleeding edge International Rectifier GaNpowIR driver-MOSFETs, server-grade tantalum capacitors, and FPCAP multi-phase capacitors, All driven by the CHiL CHL8318 VRM controller. The clock frequency is maintained at 1100MHz (core), 1200MHz (boost) while the memory clock was increased to 6600MHz from 6GHz on reference models. This beast of a card is powered by a 8+6 Pin connectors and voltage measurement points are located right next to them. ZOTAC has also included the OC+ module which is a USB controlled expansion card which fits in the drive bay located at the front of the PCB allowing for voltage/clock adjustments and GPU monitoring. Whereas the cooler itself is a mammoth featuring five 9mm heatpipes running through the dense aluminum fin array and cooled by dual fans. ZOTAC adds a backplate and a PCB supporter in the package. This card will hit the stores next month.

What is Behind Ivy Bridge CPU's Thermals ?

PC Watch has proved that the thermal interface material (TIM) used by Intel, inside the integrated heatspreader (IHS) of its 3rd generation Core series codenamed "Ivy Bridge" processors are behind its higher than expected load temperatures. This assertion was first made in late-April by an Overclockers.com report, and was recently put to test by Japanese tech portal PC Watch, in which an investigator carefully removed the IHS of a Core i7-3770K processor, removed the included TIM and binding grease, and replaced them with a pair of aftermarket performance TIMs, such as OCZ Freeze and Coolaboratory Liquid Pro. PC Watch findings show that swapping the TIM, if done right; can shave stock clock (3.5 GHz, Auto voltage) temperatures by as much as 18% (lowest temperatures by the Coolaboratory TIM), and 4.00 GHz @ 1.2V temperatures by as much as 23% (again, lowest temperatures on the Coolaboratory TIM). The change in TIM was also change the overclockability of the chip, which was then able to sustain higher core voltages to facilitate higher core clock speeds. The report also concluded that Intel's decision to use thermal paste inside the IHS of its Ivy Bridge chips, instead of fluxless solder, poses a very real impact on temperatures and overclockability.

Nvidia Geforce GTX 670

Today is launch day for the GTX 670. This time around non reference cards came out on launch day. some examples are from palit, asus, zotac, and galaxy. one of the things which stand out is that Techpowerup (a very well known tech site/ reviewer) has reviewed the Asus Geforce GTX 670 Direct CU II and gave it a perfect score of 10 !!! In the Pro's and Cons part of the review they said that this card is faster than the GTX 670. Alright back to business, the GTX 670 like the GTX 680 has the GK 104. the both cards have 1344 cuda cores, this is different to the 1536 cuda cores the GTX 680 has because one of the SMX has been disabled, the core clock in the other hand 915MHz with a boost clock of 980MHz. Other than that it has a 6.00 GHz memory clock resulting in a 192 GBs memory bandwith, a 2GB memory buffer which is 256-bit wide, it has 32 ROPs and two SLI fingers for a 4-way SLI configuration. Unlike the GTX 680 the GTX 670 draws power from dual 6-pin power connectors for a TDP of 170W. For the Rear I/O it feature two dual-link DVI a HDMI 1.4 capable of 3D and a full lenght display port. This card out of the box also supports 3D Vision surround on 3 monitors an one auxiliary monitor. Nvidia suggests the retail price for this card is $399 but may vary due to different regions and different partners. Here are some benchmarks which is on the Nvidia site:

Galaxy Note 10.1 Upgraded to a Quad-Core

The Last time we saw the Galaxy Note 10.1 is at Mobile World Congress 2012 on February in Barcelona. When the phone was first shown at Mobile World Congress 2012 it packed a dual-core exynos processor. Now Samsung wants the Exynos 4 Quad to power the Galaxy Note 10.1. However, the Exynos 4 Quad had a troubled birth as well, The first version did not yield chips capable of such performance, as Samsung Semiconductor was occupied with a prospect of new clients as well. With the new findings in order how to make quad-core operate at sufficient thermal limitations, Exynos 4412 was taped out in the final revision and brought a significant jump in performance. the performance rose a little but by a significant margin. When we saw the initial results using the test silicon, the performance was at the levels of Qualcomm Snapdragon S4. However, with the new silicon revision and the powerful Mali GPU (we expect T-604 based one, rather than the Mali-400MP) the performance skyrocketed. Vr-Zone stumbled on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8000 on Rightware's Powerboard, one of largest databases of benchmarked mobile devices. The fastest score they've ever stumbled across was 37 which was set by the Snapdragon S4, but the new Exynos 4 Quad sets a new record by achieving 60. Furthermore, this level of performance belongs to the next-generation of devices, rather than the present. Devices which packs these chips are considered future chips. As such, we expect that GT-i9300 (Samsung Galaxy SIII) and GT-N8000 (Galaxy Note 10.1) will significantly increase the bar among numerous competitors, like ASUS's (Nvidia Tegra powered) Transformer pads and Apple's next iPad refresh.

The New ipad was apple's 'Plan B'

New report suggest that the new iPad is actually Apple's “Plan B” ipad, as the original idea was to launch a tablet that was thinner and lighter than the iPad 2. Apple wanted to use a new display technology from Sharp but the Japanese multinational wasn’t able to have the tech ready in time. CNET reported that Apple initially planned to use IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) semiconducting material to create the new iPad screens. DisplayMate Technologies CEO Raymond Soneira told the publication that IGZO features a lot higher electron mobility which would allow them to make the transistors and the circuit elements a lot smaller. DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim is confident that the new iPad that Apple released wasn’t part of the original plan. He noted that they pushed the amorphous silicon to a higher pixel per inch than anyone else has but since the light throughput wasn’t very good, they needed double the number of LEDs. This made the 70 percent larger battery mandatory to keep the same battery rating claims as the iPad 2 which ultimately led to a thicker and heavier ipad. Furthermore, Apple hasn’t had any trouble convincing people to buy their third generation iPad as evident by the 11.8 million tablets the company shipped last quarter. Since then Sharp started producing panels based on IGZO technology which we could possibly see in the next generation iPad or other tech related gadgets.

RIM's Blackberry advertising

as you know there is a website called wake-up-australia.com.au, for the past few days there was a countdown clock on the site. so what happens when the clock goes to 0. if you go to the site now you will be redirected to www.wakeupbebold.com.au. the website is basically an advertisement for Blackberry. when you enter the site your screen is gushed with black paint and the word WAKE UP appears and these words appear while being narrated by a man with footsteps as background music:

wake up

it's time to mean business.
now before you go looking for your suit an briefcase,
we're not talking about that kind of business.

Business is no longer just a suit-wearing,
cubicle-sitting, card-carrying kind of pursuit.

These days being 'in business'
means you're the kind of person
who takes action and makes things happen.

You don't just think different...
you do different.

it's a simple choice:

you're either her to leave your mark
and eat opportunity for breakfast

Or

you're satisfied to just float through life
like a cork in the stream.

Now, we know some people will choose
to float on by and that's fine

Being in business is not for everyone,

but unfortunately...there is no middle ground.
you're either in business or you're not.

for those of us with our eyes wide open,
we need to realise there's only one device
for people who mean business...
the brand that's been in business
from the very beginning

Gigabyte Geforce GTX 670 Windforce 3X Spotted

Yesterday we saw the leaked reference design GTX 670 which comes with a quite short PCB, and now the first non-reference GTX 670 has surfaced online from Malaysia, namely the Gigabyte GTX 670 WindForce 3X edition. The PCB on this non-reference card is about the same length as the WindForce 3X cooler itself that is composed of an aluminum radiator, three copper-plated heatpipes as well as three 92 mm fans. This model in particular however comes with one 6 pin and one 8 pin power connectors, which shows that this card has more VRM phases and is ready for some extreme overclocking. The card comes with the reference 2GB memory across a 256 bit interface with the core clock set at 980 MHz and memory running at 6008 MHz effective. The card features 1344 CUDA cores and is available on retail for $491. check out the GTX 670’s reference design benchmarks here as it clearly blows the HD 7950 away and may be able to compete with the HD 7970 after Overclocking.

Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 Benchmarks

The reference design as well as some benchmarks of the GTX 670. The Geforce GTX 670 will be the third GPU to feature the 28nm Kepler GK104 core. This card with the plastic shroud looks like a normal length card but if the shroud is taken out it is revealed the card is as short as a GTX 295. As you can see from the image above The Kepler Gk104 is accompanied by a 4 Phase VRM which is powered by dual 6 pin power connectors. There are four memory chips at the front and four at the back of the PCB which suggest a 2GB memory buffer which is 256-bit wide, however an additional room for eight more chips mean we would be looking at 4GB non reference models soon. The Kepler GK104 has one of its SMX units disabled totaling at 1344 Cuda Cores, 112 TMUs and 32 ROPs. Display outputs include two DVI ports accompanied by a single HDMI and a Display port. The two Gold SLI fingers allow for 4-Way multi GPU configurations. The card was manufactured b Gigabyte as suggested from the codename “GV-N670OC-2GD2″ was pitted against the Radeon HD 7950 and GeForce GTX 570. The results obtained were quite shocking:
As you can see the GTX 670 blows the GTX 570 away but also outperforms the HD 7950 and at times giving around 80% of the performance of a GTX 680 at stock clocks and with overclocked frequencies can reach the 680 levels with ease. The card would be a strong entry in the Kepler lineup though its price is still not confirmed, Some suggest $349 while custom variants would sell for above $399. Official launch date for the 670 is May 7th.

The Samsung Galaxy S III

As you all know samsung had an event called Mobile Unpacked 2012 which was held on May 3rd, 7PM London. In that event they revealed the Samsung Galaxy S III, which has a 4.8" screen Super Amoled HD screen with a 720 x 1280 (~303 ppi) resolution screen. The display has a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for protection. The Galaxy S III comes in two color variations Pebble blue and marble white. This phone comes with an 8MP camera paired up with a LED flash, whereas the front facing camera is a 1.9MP camera capable of taking 720P videos at 30fps.
One of the main features which stand out of this phone is the Quad core processor, this phone uses Samsung's latest processor the Exynos 4 Quad (4412), running at 1.4GHz; as well as 1GB of ram and a choice of 16/32/64 GB of internal storage accompanied by a micro SD slot. Powering all those hardware is a 2100 mAh battery. This phone comes preinstalled wit Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich paired up wit samsung's own TouchWiz Nature UX. The Galaxy S III features a demo of ‘S Voice’ which listens, responds quickly and understands 8 different languages! Another trait of Galaxy S3 is wireless charging which means that you can charge your S3 without the hassle of any wires and that too at a sizable distance from any electric socket. The new ‘Smart Alert’ feature ensures you don’t miss notifications, while ‘Social Tag’ keeps you up-to-date with friends & family. With ‘Smart Stay’ the S3 uses the front-facing camera to detect if you’re looking at it, so it knows whether to keep the screen awake or not. This is a feature which has been lacking in smartphones and Samsung has yet again come to the consumers rescue with this feature. Through Wi-Fi Channel Bonding, one can enjoy double the Wi-Fi bandwidth by using mutliple Wi-Fi connections simultaneously. The Galaxy S3 will get its connectivity from Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0+HS, standard microUSB port, GPS receiver with A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, FM radio, TV-out, USB-on-the-go as well as the Near Field Communication (NFC) chip. Other features include TouchWiz 4.0 UI, DivX/XviD codec support, built-in accelerometer, multi-touch input, proximity sensor, gyroscope sensor, Swype text input, RGB light etc. One more major advantage the Galaxy S III has to offer is 50 GB of Drobox storage for 2 years. Finally the Galaxy S III will be available starting 29 of May, and the LTE version will come in Summer.

Colorful Geforce GTX 670 Revealed

This card features the same GK104 chip which was used on the flagship GTX 680 except that one of its SMX unit is disabled which reduces the total number of cuda cores, also the card is so trimmed down that it has been equipped on a PCB which matches the length of the GTS 450 card.  MSI’s GTX 680 was previously leaked but it was only pictured from the top so we couldn’t exactly calculate the exact length of the PCB. The colorful 670 has been pictured from the back which shows that the PCB is extremely short compared to the 680 and the cooler shroud is extended to make it look like a bigger card. However the features are still intact, such as the 2 SLI Goldfingers, Reference Display Outputs (2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 Display Port) a 4+1 Phase VRM design and 2GB (256-bit wide) memory interface, One thing we spotted is that there are 4 Memory chips located at the back of the PCB while 4 are located at the front. This means that there’s room for additional 8 memory chips so we can see 4GB reference or custom models in the future or at launch by different vendors. The card still requires two 6 Pin connectors and has a TDP above 170W. The VRM assembly is located near the exhaust port. Launching on May 7th, The card would be priced at an MSRP of $399.
