The T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream was the first android powered device and does not have any custom skin on it. Although it wasn't called a nexus phone it was still running the stock version of android. In early 2010 Google announce their first ever nexus branded device, fast forward 3 years and we have about 6 nexus branded devices in which 4 are smartphones and 2 are tablets. But the first ever nexus device is the HTC one which wasn't the most popular android phone. The nexus lineup of devices are not so popular amongst normal users but is pretty popular in the android power users community. The most popular nexus branded device now is the Nexus 7 which google has got the perfect formula by giving people powerful performance for a low price. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 is yet to be go on sale and those devices are expected to sell pretty well in the holiday season. So the correct formula in building a nexus phone is making the price low and giving users the most powerful hardware. Here is an infographic of the nexus phone released in the years.
