The UI of iOS has been the same since it was first introduced in 2007 on the original iPhone. Ever since then the most major change was in iOS 5 where they added a bevy of new features like siri, iMessage and many more. This year when iOS 6 was introduced Apple went and gave the boot to Google by not integrating any of their services into iOS. But all and all iOS has been the same static rows of icons ever since it was introduced 5 years ago. Next year in iOS 6 we could see some major changes in the whole UI because Scott Forstall the VP of iOS software is leaving apple next year and Craig Federighi and Jony Ive is taking some of Forstalls work. So we are expecting some UI changes. Here is a concept video about iOS having resizable icons which become widgets at certain sizes.
